About Me

Hello World! My name is Elizabeth Cook. I am a part time MBA student, an engineer and most importantly a wife and mother. Growing up, the common question kids would hear was “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Well I’ve always loved science, math and just constructing things. After I kept telling people what I love to do, someone said to me “Oh so an Engineer”.

Yes an engineer, after graduating with a bachelors in electrical engineering I started to work for our local utility company. Now I lead a group of designers where we are responsible for providing and maintaining reliable service to our customers. During the last few years, our greatest focus was storm hardening Bronx and Westchester after Super Storm Sandy hit the north east in 2012. We have redesigned and created new designs which were never done on our system before.

One important factor I learned that its great to be an engineer, but when your in charge of a multimillion dollar design, its also important to be designing a cost efficient design and actually understand the finances behind the projects. That’s what motivated me to sign up for business school.

Because I love the challenge I decided to start my MBA journey pregnant with my first child because I knew if I start, I will be motivated to finish my degree. Well I’m glad I started before my baby was born because jeez, it is tough. I give stay at home parents a lot of credit, being a parent is the hardest but most rewarding job there is.

Sincerely,

Mom, wife, engineer, MBA Student

Elizabeth Cook
